History of Newport and the Mansions
Founded in 1639, Newport was an important port city, a center of the slave trade, a fashionable resort and the summer home of the Gilded Age rich.

Learn to tango (American style) in time for Valentine’s Day in Newport’s largest ballroom! No partner or dance experience is necessary. Professional instructors from The Dancing Feeling: Rhode Island’s Premier Dance Studio will provide an introductory American tango lesson followed by instructors performing a choreographed showcase dance. Guests can then take to the floor to practice their new moves.
Modern ballroom dance has its roots in developments during the Gilded Age. Tango was popularized in America beginning in 1910 and eventually evolved to have its own distinct American style.
Free parking is available in the lot on the left side of the Rosecliff property.
For more than 40 years, The Dancing Feeling Studio has been teaching people to dance and feel happier and healthier along the way. Their professional staff is kind and patient with beginners and also coaches its more experienced students to win world titles in both ballroom and country dance. The studio hosts the New England Dance Festival and the Patriot Dance Festival and has ballroom programs at Brown University, Rhode Island College and Roger Williams University.
