History of Newport and the Mansions
Founded in 1639, Newport was an important port city, a center of the slave trade, a fashionable resort and the summer home of the Gilded Age rich.
What was the Gilded Age?
The Gilded Age was a period of unprecedented change in America. Fortunes were spent on luxuries such as the lavish "summer cottages" of Newport.

The Breakers, The Elms, Marble House and Rosecliff offer a self-guided experience with engaging audio tours. Fun children’s tours are also available for The Breakers and Marble House. These tours are available in the Newport Mansions App; download it before your visit, and bring your earbuds!
Children younger than 6 are admitted for free and do not need a ticket.
Note about Holidays at the Newport Mansions: Admission for daytime house tours during the holiday period, November 18-January 1, is by our regular tickets: The Breakers, One-House, Duo or Trio.

See the largest and most spectacular of the Newport Mansions and learn about the extraordinary Vanderbilt family who lived there, from the extravagant society dinners they hosted to the games their children played in the gilded halls.

Sparkling Lights at The Breakers brings the magic of the holidays outdoors to the beautiful landscape of this landmark Gilded Age mansion! You’ll stroll along a half-mile-long path glittering with hundreds of thousands of holiday lights while music fills the winter air.
Select dates November 17 through December 30. Choose a specific date and time.
Includes The Breakers interior tour during the same visit.
Advance ticket purchase is strongly recommended. Sparkling Lights tickets are non-refundable and the date and time cannot be changed. Members, please log in to your account to get the discounted price.

Includes unlimited general admission to all open properties for one year, including properties that require a timed reservation. Complimentary timed reservations can be made online after Pass has been purchased or through the Membership Office.
Does not include specialty tours such as The Elms Servant Life, Beneath The Breakers or Sparkling Lights at The Breakers.
The Access Pass is valid for one person per pass. Each Access Pass must be attached to a unique Newport Mansions account.

The Breakers and The Elms offer specialty guide-led tours that give you a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes workings of these mansions.

Take a guide-led tour through the basement, boiler room and tunnel to learn how daily life in the Gilded Age was transformed by new wonders.
Advance ticket purchase is strongly recommended. Tickets are time & date specific. House tickets must be purchased separately. Tickets can be purchased in advance online or in person at The Breakers, The Elms & Marble House ticket sales stations.

See and hear how the other half lived as you take the Servant Life Tour at The Elms. This tour will highlight the stories of some of the men and women who worked to service the social whirl of Newport during the Gilded Age.
Advance ticket purchase is strongly recommended. Tickets are time & date specific. House tickets must be purchased separately. Tickets can be purchased in advance online or in person at The Breakers, The Elms & Marble House ticket sales stations. PLEASE NOTE: This tour requires climbing several flights of stairs.
Did you know you can put your ticket price toward a membership? If you decide to purchase a membership after you have bought tickets, visit a ticket sales associate at The Breakers Welcome Center, Marble House or The Elms and they can assist you. The price you paid for your tickets will go toward your membership! This must be done within seven days of first using the ticket.
Families with valid EBT or WIC cards are eligible for $2-per-person regular admission per house for up to four people. This discount can only be claimed when purchasing tickets in person. Please show your valid EBT or WIC card. Photo ID also required. Excludes specialty tours and special events. The Museums for All initiative is a national access program of the Institute of Museum and Library Services and the Association of Children’s Museums that encourages individuals of all backgrounds to visit museums regularly.
