History of Newport and the Mansions
Founded in 1639, Newport was an important port city, a center of the slave trade, a fashionable resort and the summer home of the Gilded Age rich.

The Gilded Age was a period of unprecedented change in America. Fortunes were spent on luxuries such as the lavish "summer cottages" of Newport.

Jennie Sadler guides you through designing a lasting paper peony bloom, artfully arranged in a vase and perfect for brightening your home or gifting to someone special.
In this hands‑on program, you’ll create a flower that never fades and can be enjoyed for years to come. Peonies surged in popularity during the Gilded Age and were worn on hats and garments and displayed in formal gardens. Interest in this beautiful flower was so strong that the American Peony Society was founded in 1903.
