Founded in 1639, Newport was an important port city, a center of the slave trade, a fashionable resort and the summer home of the Gilded Age rich.

The Preservation Society of Newport County invites all Newport County residents to visit our open houses and properties for free, Saturday and Sunday, March 8 and 9, 2025.
Experience the beauty and grandeur of The Breakers, The Elms and Marble House. These magnificent mansions represent Newport’s Gilded Age greatness and have awed generations of visitors. Download the free Newport Mansions audio tour app, bring your earbuds and hear the fascinating stories of people who lived and worked in these grand houses. Children’s audio tours at The Breakers and Marble House bring the houses to life for young imaginations, with cool sound effects and fun characters including the house itself!
This offer is for residents of Newport, Jamestown, Middletown, Portsmouth, Tiverton and Little Compton. Proof of residence is required. Free admission is also extended to personnel stationed at Naval Station Newport and their immediate family (Naval Station ID required) and students of Salve Regina University (student ID required).
This offer excludes specialty tours such as Beneath The Breakers, The Breakers Third Floor Preservation in Progress Tour and The Elms Servant Life Tour.
