The scale of Points for Division I: Creative Mixed Planters unless otherwise specified:
Home Gardens have become as personal, creative and beautiful as homes themselves. Many have downsized and lifestyles demand both flexibility and function. These gardening carts meet both of those requirements as well as portability from space to space. Show us your garden on the move!
• Plant a garden cart, to be displayed on the back lawn of Rosecliff (full sun exposure). • Class will be divided into two sections: one predominantly with Herbs, and one predominantly with Veggies. • Accessories are allowed within or on the cart only. • Up to 12 entries, pre-registration required (see below), photo key card required. • Two 36” long window boxes, which combined fit the cart planting space, will be provided at the Get Growing! reception; please see RSVP information on the Horticulture Division Rules and Guidelines webpage.
Without the actions of pollinators, agricultural economies, our food supply and surrounding landscapes would collapse. Birds, bats, bees, butterflies, beetles and small mammals that pollinate plants are responsible for bringing us one out of every three bites of food. (About Pollinators / Pollinator.org)
• Planter is the exhibitor’s choice. • Limited to 4 entries, pre-registration required (see below). • Must contain a minimum of 5 different plant varieties. • Plants must be compatible and identified as Sun or Shade. • Planter may be any shape but should not exceed 12” wide x 24” long. • No height restriction on the completed planter.
Nothing says “home” like meals from the garden. Share your recipe in a Creative Planter featuring at least three plantings from the recipe. Made with love!
• Recipe must be included as part of the exhibit. • Limited to 4 entries, pre-registration required (see below). • At least 3 plants included in the recipe must be in the planter. • Plants must be compatible. • Accessories are allowed with discretion. • No height restriction on the completed planter.

Evidence shows that the use of medicinal plants dates back to the Paleolithic age, approximately 60,000 years ago. The Sumerians compiled lists of plants and their benefits more than 5,000 years ago. And the foundation of today’s life-saving drugs is overwhelmingly plant-based. Bring on the herbal tea!
• Plant material selected for its medicinal value should be prominent. • Limited to 4 Entries, pre-registration required (see below). • Planter is Exhibitor’s Choice. • Planters may be any shape but should comply with the weight limit outlined in the Rules & Guidelines. • No height restrictions.
Professional estate gardeners have their tried-and-true favorites that form their planting vocabulary. Unlike effusive seed and plant catalog descriptions, real-life gardening experience informs these opinions. Planting advice you can take home!
• Four professional gardeners will be provided with a 4’ x 8’ raised bed in which to display their favorite outdoor annual, perennial, productive and woody plants. • Each specimen plant must be accurately labeled and accompanied by the gardener’s explanation of why it is one of their favorite outdoor plants. • Minimum of six plants. • To be displayed in half-day sun.
This Class is Full
Most home living spaces are centered on a coffee table. In design magazines, coffee tables are pictured not as landing pads for newspapers, magazines and today’s bills, but as stylish compositions that reflect the season. Share your statement of style!
• Exhibitors are asked to style the top of a 35“ x 22” x 17” coffee table in Newport summer style. • Committee to provide an IKEA Lack coffee table in white stained oak. • Limited to 4 entries, pre-registration required (see below). • The composition must contain at least three living plants. Accessories required.
Class 109: Par Class An exhibit of exceptional horticultural merit, which does not qualify for entry elsewhere in Horticulture Division I.
Photo Key Cards are required for all entries in this division.
A Photo Key Card is a photo of your exhibit attached (or printed) on white card stock no larger than 5″x8″. A numbered list of botanical and common names refers to the corresponding numbered plant in the photo. Please complete your Photo Key Card prior to arriving at the show. The Photo Key Cards are laminated to cardstock at the show to weather-proof them. Please do not use photo paper which blurs in the laminating process.
