Founded in 1639, Newport was an important port city, a center of the slave trade, a fashionable resort and the summer home of the Gilded Age rich.

1. Acceptance of Terms of Service By submitting a bid via email (events@newportmansions.org) for the Auction, you acknowledge that you understand, accept and agree to comply with these Auction Rules.
2. Bidder Eligibility Bidders must be at least 18 years old and legally capable of entering binding contracts.
3. Bidding as a Binding Contract By placing a bid via email, you agree to purchase the item if you are the highest bidder. The winning bidder is the one with the highest bid at Auction close and will receive an official notification via email.
4. Payment Terms • Winning bidders must pay the full bid amount, including any applicable sales or use tax. Accepted payment methods: check, credit card or bank transfer. • Credit card payments incur a 3.95% processing fee. • Winners must respond to the Auction Highest Bid email within 24 hours to arrange payment and item transfer. • Items are held for 24 hours pending payment confirmation. • Full payment is required within five (5) business days of confirmation. • Failure to confirm within 24 hours may result in forfeiture, and the item may be offered to the next highest bidder. • Shipping fees (if applicable) are the responsibility of the winning bidder.
5. Auction Terms • Bidders agree to any donor-specified terms in the item description unless they conflict with applicable law. • The Preservation Society reserves the right to add or withdraw any item before online bidding begins. • In the event of a dispute, the Preservation Society has the final authority in determining the winning bid.
Bidding Period: Starts: Sunday, March 23, 2025, at 9 am (EDT) Closes: Sunday, March 30, 2025, at 7 pm (EDT)
• Final bids will be determined by the timestamp on the email when received at Events@NewportMansions.org. • Winning bidders will be notified via email after the Auction closes. • The Auction webpage will be updated regularly with the highest bid received at the time of each update. • Bidders may submit both a starting bid and a maximum bid. • Each bid must include full name, mailing address and telephone number. • All bids are final and cannot be retracted unless required by law. • All purchases are final upon confirmation and cannot be canceled except where legally mandated.
6. Tied Bids If there are identical maximum bids, the bid received first (based on the email timestamp) will take precedence. In some cases, a second identical item may be offered to the next highest bidder at the maximum bid amount.
7. Auction Redemption & Expiration Dates • Items must be booked at least 60 days in advance and are subject to vendor availability. • Weekend availability may be limited. • Auction items cannot be resold. • Unless stated otherwise, items must be redeemed by May 2026.
