Preserving the structures and artifacts of Newport's colorful past is a difficult, meticulous, and expensive undertaking requiring resources involving many disciplines. The Preservation Society of Newport County is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and interpreting the area's architecture, landscape, and decorative arts, and relies on generous donations from the general public to help fund its operations.

You may choose to make an unrestricted donation to assist the Preservation Society in its mission, or you may wish to donate to a specific project.  Listed below are a few of the ways you may direct your contribution that would assist us:

Annual Fund

A gift to the Annual Fund, which supports general operations and immediate needs, is the most comprehensive way to support the Preservation Society. Each year we rely on private contributions from friends like you to help us:
  • Properly care for and present the houses and grounds
  • Provide educational offerings including lectures and symposia
  • Plan and develop an exciting schedule of special events
  • Execute thousands of public tours
  • Enrich, enlighten and inspire our community in many other ways

Endowment

The Preservation Society's most critical base of support is its endowment, which provides steady income even in the face of budgetary challenges. A healthy endowment ensures that the Society can pursue first-rate educational and scholarly activities well into the future. Your contribution to the endowment is a self-renewing gift, in that the Society's current spending policy of five percent per year allows the principal to grow while generating a reliable income stream in perpetuity.

Making a Gift of Stock

These days many people are taking a close look at their stock portfolios and choosing to make their annual charitable contributions via gifts of stock.  If you are interested in making a gift of stock to the Preservation Society, please click here for specific instructions.

For additional information or to discuss your gift intentions in detail, please contact Caroline Considine, Director of Development, at (401) 847-1000 ext. 167 or via e-mail at cconsidine@NewportMansions.org.
