Children of All Ages Invited to Party Among the Green Animals
Whimsical garden sculptures, festive music, games and more will greet partygoers at the annual Green Animals Children’s Party hosted by the Preservation Society of Newport County on Sunday, July 14 at the Green Animals Topiary Garden in Portsmouth, Rhode Island. Children and adults of all ages are invited to enjoy the festivities, including music, magic, clowns, puppets, pony rides, kiddie rides, crafts and refreshments, rain or shine, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. A new feature of the party this year will be a red, white and blue children’s carousel ride.
Green Animals Topiary Garden, owned and maintained by The Preservation Society of Newport County, is an historic country estate that includes one of the oldest topiary gardens in the nation. It consists of more than 80 sculptured trees and shrubs in the shape of geometric forms and animals such as teddy bears, a giraffe, an elephant, a camel, and many more; formal flowerbeds; and vegetable and herb gardens, all on a picturesque seven-acre estate overlooking Narragansett Bay.
Admission to the Green Animals Children’s Party is $5 for adult members of the Preservation Society, free for member children under 12. For non-members, adult admission is $10 and $5 for children 6-12. All children 5 and under are admitted free. All children must be accompanied by an adult. No reservations are required. Admission includes the opportunity to tour the gardens and the white clapboard estate house, which displays a collection of antique toys and dollhouses. Green Animals is located on Cory’s Lane, off route 114, in Portsmouth.
