Media credentials for the 2007 William K. Vanderbilt, Jr. Concours d'Elegance at the Newport Mansions are reserved for working staff or freelance journalists "on assignment" from a specific media outlet.
Freelance journalists wishing to attend the Concours to write a story "on spec" for a particular publication(s) should submit samples of published works in automotive-related publications or websites.
Media Credentials Pick-up Procedures
If your request for media credentials is approved, you will be notified via email. Credentials will be available to be picked up at The Preservation Society of Newport County offices, 424 Bellevue Avenue, Newport, from 9 am to 5 pm Thursday, July 26 through Saturday, July 28, and from 9 am to 12 pm on Sunday, July 29. A photo ID is required to pick up media credentials.
Media credentials must be worn at all times and are not transferable. Lost credentials will not be replaced, so please guard them carefully.
Media Access
Media credentials will entitle the wearer to access the starting area of the Tour d'Elegance at The Glen in Portsmouth; Concours exhibits on the grounds of Chateau-sur-Mer and The Breakers; the Media Tent and VIP Hospitality hosted by Fireman's Fund at Chateau-sur-Mer; Car Corrals at The Elms; and one (1) daytime parking pass for the VIP Parking area at Chepstow on Narragansett Avenue, with shuttle transportation to all daytime Concours locations.
Credentialed media will also be allowed limited access to observe and photograph the Legends of Racing Dinner at The Breakers on Friday evening, July 27, and the cocktail reception prior to the Black and White Ball at Marble House on Saturday evening, July 28. Parking for these events will be onsite valet parking, NOT in the daytime parking area.
No access to otherwise restricted areas is permitted except with specific permission from the Communications Office.
The Media Tent at Chateau-sur-Mer will be open from 12 pm to 6 pm on Friday and Saturday, July 27 and 28, and from 9 am to 4 pm on Sunday, July 29. Daily event schedules and information will be posted there. We expect to have WiFi internet access available for those who need it.
Please note, a request for credentials is not a guarantee that credentials will be issued. While The Preservation Society of Newport County intends to provide as much open media access as possible to official Concours events, the Society reserves the right to control media access to any event for any reason in its sole discretion. Media members are subject to the direction of Concours security and/or media staff at all times while on Preservation Society property.
