Kingscote's Coming of Age: A Sentimental Journey
Holly Collins
Kingscote (1839-41) is one of the most intact historic houses in the United States. Over five generations of King family objects are on display in the house as well as letters, journals and photographs. The fine art, furnishings and decorative objects combined with written materials offer a unique window into the culture of Gilded Age America by a family that was prominent in social, economic, political and cultural circles.
This research report is based on the study and editing of letters and journals of members of the King family.
